Axes are currently my favourite edged tools. The variety of shapes, sizes and bevels they have is just mind boggling. This axe head was found at Shukrawari flea market in Baroda. The handle wood is something which is indian wood straight grain and good balance of rigidity with strength. The person I bought these told me it was Baval or Babool or Acacia. That is one wood which I can identify with eyes closed, and it is not that.
The leather cover has been hand stitched with real leather and brass fittings. The head has been fixed with a rosewood wedge secured with a steel crimp.
